Requesting a list
If you want a mailing list @lists.squat.net, please go to our mailing list page and register there. We will validate your list after reviewing it. Don’t forget to register with an email you regularly check as we will have to send you the credentials. Also, please write in english if you can, so you get more chances to have an answer soonish, but if you can’t, we also speak german, french, spannish and maybe even italian 🙂
Configuring your mailing list
Usage
- Newsletter: this is not a discussing list. A selected group of people has the right to send an email to the list, and all subscribers will receive it. Subscribers can’t answer to the list, but can answer to the sender. You will want this kind of list for example to (ir-)regularly send news about your squat, announce a party or a vegan food…
- Discussing list: this kind of mailing list is used to keep in touch with others, where everyone can write and read. Subscription can be open to the public, or closed so that only some people can add members to the list. You will want this kind of list for exemple to organise an event, or a share news at a city level, if you want everyone to be able to send messages.
Archives
A mailing list will by default keep archives of messages going through it. Archives can be either public (everyone even not registered will be able to read archives), private (only subscribers can view archives), admin-only (self explanatory!) or disabled.
Visibility
Your mailing list can be either public (it will appear on https://lists.squat.net, no matter whether subscription is open or not), or private (it won’t appear anywhere publicly, unless you publish its address somewhere).
Misc
Use the blacklist for subscriptions
With Sympa (the software we use to manage lists), by default, blacklist is only checked against for the “send” action, ie. when people actually send a message to the list. If you also want this blacklist to be checked against for the “subscribe” action (ie. when people ask for subscription, either on the form at https://lists.squat.net or by email), or any other action, please let us know and we will enable it for you.
